Keywords
Finding Markets and the Keywords that go with them.
Locating markets. Use the following words in the search engines to find hungry markets:
Learn..
Training..
Buy..
Tips..
Instructions..
Tutorials..
Help..
Locator..
Problem..
Solution..
Idea..
Free..
The subjects that come up in response to these search terms are what the market is telling you they are looking for. When you have an idea of the market you are going to address then you use a keyword tool to find the most popular keywords and keyword phrases related to that subject.
Following is a list of free keyword tools. These may change from time to time.

KWmap.net
Another free tool with an interesting twist. One thing to bear in mind with this is that although you can copy the keywords out of the lists it is telling you nothing more than that the keywords exist. The value of keywords usually comes from knowing how often they are being searched for in order to focus your marketing effort as required. In this case you are getting a large but rather blunt weapon from KWmap.net.
Wordtracker:
Wordtracker is the generally accepted industry standard. You buy a period of subscription. As you only need to do keyword research every now and again (unless you're heavily into Adsense or similar) then this is well worth the small outlay for a few days.
Paid software tools.
These are hopefully going to be more productive for you and have the advantage that they are generally updated to keep up with changes made by the search engines.
The Dowser.
Excellent – I use The Dowser for keyword research.
Keyword Country
Variable subscription costs as for Wordtracker but you can rent the service by the day, week, month or year. There is actually a cut-off of the number of keywords you can copy out of the system in the one day service – presumably to encourage you to upgrade to the longer service. The best part of the service i.e. finding the best paying keywords "on the planet" is also restricted to the monthly subscription.
One tip. This software produces lots of information. At first I saved only the keywords I filtered and selected. Then I found that I wanted to go back and look at it in another way. So now I keep all the information provided and export it into Excel spreadsheets. Then I can always go back and analyse it another way. If you are an Adwords or Adsense user then you need different information according to what you are doing.
LowerYourBidPrice.com
Keyword research tool specifically oriented to Google Adwords advertisers. Carries out many useful functions like adding different parameters to improve your Adwords effectiveness. I haven't used it (as I haven't done Adwords) but came across it when watching a presentation on Adwords by Kurt Christensen and it doesn't come with any better recommendation than that.
Geokeywords
Generates keywords that allows targeting of Adwords campaigns by country/city etc. I haven't used it but it comes recommended by Stephen Pierce. I suspect that it multiplies the number of keywords simply by adding city and country names but I really don't know.
Keyword Tracking
Digitalpoint Keyword Tracker
This utility can be used to check search engines (currently supporting Google, Yahoo and MSN) for search engine ranking and track those ranking historically.
