List Building

The money's in the list..

Whatever you put up on the internet just make sure you are collecting names and email addresses so that you can make follow on offers to your prospects, even if they do not buy from you on first contact.

List Building

To sell a product on the internet you need a website and traffic and that will get you one-off sales, revenue and profit. But to turn that into a business you need a list.

A list enables you to return to your existing customers with new offers. A list enables you to maintain contact with your existing customers through that other marvel of internet technology, the autoresponder, and through that repeated contact to build a relationship.

A list enables you to find out from your existing customers what it is that they most want next. Because it is your ability to continue to deliver products and services that your customers are looking for that is your business, not the products and services themselves.

It took me a long time to understand the significance of the list. Of course, I listened to my mentors as they banged on about it and followed their instructions to put up opt-in boxes and gather names but it was a student's response of doing what I was told without necessarily understanding the significance.

Now I've had the time and opportunity to study marketing some more rather than just doing it by rote I've concluded that I really have to focus on that issue.

That's why I've spent a lot of time on my latest project at ListLegions.com.

List Legions is focussed on the internet marketing niche. But the fundamental concepts of this powerful software can be applied whatever niche you are working in. And if you are working in internet marketing then do please sign up because one it's strongest features is that it enables every subscriber to use the whole of the automated system to develop your own list.

Alternatively, if you don't want an integrated press button product but want to cobble something together for yourslef then there are all sorts of tools. Here is one:

Free list building script – Viral Friend Dominator.

Scott Boulch caused mayhem in late 2006 when he released The Death of Adsense. Then he went on to release The List Virus – the software tool that spread the word about his "Death of…" product. Now he's just released a part of that tool as a stand alone 'tell a friend' script. And it's free…! Naturally, it's a lead in to upselling you to the List Virus. But never mind that. Just take the free part and decide about the Virus later.

If you want to get serious about viral marketing then Scott Boulch's List Virus seems to be the tool for the moment.

Video Conferencing

One way to build your list and deliver content is to relate directly to your list with teleseminars (by telephone), webinars (teleseminars with shared screens) and video conferencing. Try the 30 day trial for $1 at www.hotconference.com for video conferencing.

Asking Your List What They Want.

The best way to deliver to people exactly what they want to buy is, of course, to ask them what they want.  So once you have the beginnings of a list it's time to start surveying them.  A useful tool that gives you 3 free shots is http://wufoo.com/.

Probably the best known is Ask.com from the well known conversion specialist Alex Mandossian.
